Plaridelian teachers, staff attend BEST MOVES seminar

Teachers and administrative staff of Plaridel National High School participated in the Brigada Eskwela Systematic Trends on Monitoring and Overcoming Vulnerabilities to Ensure Safety in Schools (BEST MOVES) seminar at Plaridel National High School, Brgy. Banago, Nagcarlan, Laguna on May 28, 2015.

“Majority of us will be gaining a lot from this one day seminar. If we will learn all the things that this seminar will teach us for the day, we can save a lot of young people’s lives, especially our students.  If we can save the lives of those students, we will have a better life as teachers and administrators” quipped Ms. Evelyn Navia, PNHS Principal, during her opening remark.

Ms. Meda San Pedro-Regalario led the singing of the national anthem, followed by a solemn prayer led by Master Teacher Ms. Delia Dorado. Afterwards, Mr. Garret Consignado, faculty President of Plaridel NHS, discussed the importance of conducting the BEST MOVES seminar for school teachers and employees, to ensure the safety of students inside the school. Ms. Catalina Averion, school Guidance Counselor, added more information about disaster risk reduction management.

Mr. Consignado invited resource speakers Alexis Janolino and Niňo Brosas from Philippine National Red Cross San Pablo City Chapter to give more information about first aid. Mr. Janolino discussed the legalities of giving first aid to victims. He also added facts about handling seizures, regulating normal body temperature, and giving information on what to do about injuries and burns. Mr. Brosas, on the other hand, taught the teachers and staff of Plaridel National High School about the uses of bondage in having first aid, and the different knots and their uses in particular injuries or situations.

In the afternoon, Mr. Ulysses Montegrande, the school property custodian, led a group activity to scrutinize the vulnerability of the school. The teachers, in groups according to their grade level that they teach, were tasked to give constructive criticisms about the safety of each room inside the campus. After the said activity, each group presented their observations to the body.

The last resource speaker, mountaineer Mr. Jerry Monteza conducted a hands-on demonstration about rescue operation process in various situations including post-earthquake and post-typhoon scenarios where one can serve as a rescuer using ropes and gadgets to save lives.

At the end of the one day seminar, Ms. Margarita Villafuerte, Head teacher of Araling Panlipunan, and Mr. Garet Consignado, gave the certificates of participation and recognition to each teacher and staff who attended the event. The BEST MOVES seminar is part of the week-long Brigada Eskwela 2015.
