Born Jason Peter Cosico Emmitt on October 7, 2007 at Isle of White England, the 5-foot-10 Filipino-British head turner is 16 years of age and is currently studying at Canossa Colleges. He is also an athlete, a table tennis player and will play for the upcoming San Pablo Division Athletic Meet. Jason is also into modelling, joining pageants at an early age.

With his baby-faced look, he is almost a resemblance of actor Ian Veneracion during his youthful days as a young actor. His ambition in life is to be a successful professional and an actor someday. With determination to succeed and an unceasing faith in God, this young lad will surely go the distance.

Pandemic-themed San Jose Integrated HS wins 3rd place in 29th Coco Festival Street Dancing Competition

San Jose Integrated High School capped the 3^rd place of the 29^th Coco Festival Street Dancing Competition held at the city plaza on January 13, 2024 in front of thousands of spectators and thousands more watching live on facebook pages. Indeed, the fun and excitement brought by this festival is back after 3 years of pandemic restrictions and San Jose Integrated High School heed to the call and brought back the winning glory.

Out of 6 schools that competed, San Jose Integrated HS placed 3^rd, with Col. Lauro Dizon Memorial Integrated High School placing 2^nd, and San Pablo City Integrated High School winning 1^st place. Felix Amante Senior High School won Best Costume while San Pablo City Integrated High School also won for Best Choreography and Liveliest group awards.  The Street Dancing competition is part of a week-long celebration of the 29thh Coco Festival in the City of San Pablo.

CSB Blazers cager and GMA Kapuso actor Prince Carlos stars in new film ‘The Vigil’

Kapuso actor and basketball heartthrob  Prince Carlos is set to star in a new horror drama under the helm of director Adolfo B. Alix, Jr. entitled ‘The Vigil’. The cast also stars Will Ashley, Anjay Anson, Abed Green, Joaquin Manansala, Bruce Roeland, Carlo San Juan, Kimson Tan, and Faye Lorenzo who are all under Sparkle GMA Artist Center.

Born Ray Rogil Benedict Carlos on June 13, 2000 in San Juan City to Mr. Roel Carlos and Ms. Olive Carlos, the 5-foot-11 combo guard is currently playing for the CSB Blazers in NCAA. Prince Carlos can also be remembered as the young kid in a television commercial for Milo alongside Kiefer Ravena and Chris Tiu.

Prince Carlos is also a well-known social media personality having more than 36.6k followers on Instagram and 187k followers on tiktok. The movie ‘The Vigil’ is about a group of boys undergoing an initiation from a high-profile organization and when they commit an unforgivable sin, punishment awaits from what they committed, and it would surely cost their lives. ‘The Vigil’ will be coming soon in cinemas.

Wangs Basketball @27 Strikers-Letran stuns rival Marinerong Pilipino- San Beda as Tolentino hits game-tying triple

Wangs Basketball @27 Strikers-Letran clawed back to life back to life from a 24-point deficit and stunned Marinerong Pilipino- San Beda, 93-87, in a thrilling overtime on Thursday in Game 1 of the 2023 PBA Aspirants’ Cup Semi Finals at Ynares Arena in Pasig City.

Kyle Dominic Tolentino who chipped in 10 and hit the game-tying triple in the last five seconds in regulation to force overtime, was one of the key players who lifted the team for the win. Wangs Basketball @27 Strikers-Letran Team Captain Kurt Reyson scored 32 points while Kevin Santos had 17.

They are now one win away from the PBA D League Aspirant’s Cup Finals. Semi-Finalists also include EcoOil-La Salle and University of Perpetual Help. PBA D-League Aspirant’s Cup can be viewed live on One Sports channel and PBA Rush on Cignal.

Kyle Dominic P. Tolentino is the son of former basketball player from CSB Blazers and Marikina Shoemasters coach Marikina Councilor Elvis Tolentino and the grandson of PBA legend Loreto “Ato” Tolentino who earned his moniker Mr. Hotshot during his PBA days.

Team San Pablo Lukkas Barbers take Game 1 of Liga Laguna season 2 Finals

Team San Pablo Lukkas Barbers defeated the Pakil basketball squad, 78-72 in game 1 nail-biter of the best-of-three Finals of the Liga Laguna Basketball Tournament Season 2 held at the Amante Gymnasium Central School on July 27, 2022. Best Player of the Game is Basti Valencia with 19 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, and 4 steals in the game.

Game 2 will be held at Municipality of Pakil in Pakil, Laguna on July 31, 2022 at 4:00pm while Game 3, if necessary, will be held at Amante Gymnasium Central School on August 3, 2022 at 4:00pm.

Fil-Dutch heartthrob Cebuano model Erik Visser joins Century Tuna Superbods

Inside the bright lights of stardom and fame, character and attitude stand tall amidst its glitter and hustling world. An armada of patience, faith and resiliency will really bring one to the real meaning of stardom and success. This is what holds true to the young, humble and talented Erik Lennart Visser.

Born Erik Lennart Visser to Mr. Leendert Visser and Ms. Gina Alonde Visser, the 6-foot-3 head turner was born in the Netherlands on May 12, 1998. His favorite sports include table tennis and swimming. His modelling gigs and pageant include Mr. Hibalag 2018 in Silliman University, Ginoong Pilipinas Cebu 2019 and Ginoong Pilipinas 2019. He will also be representing the Philippines for the Mr. Universe Tourism 2023.  

Asked about his preparations for the Century Tuna Superbods contest, “I do mostly exercise, diet, and preparing my mindset. I think the best preparation is to just be myself on stage”, quipped the Half Pinoy Half Dutch model. His previous television appearances include an interview with Ginoong Pilipinas on ‘The Arnold Clavio Show. He also did an appearance in the Runway model for the Brides at Triton and in an episode for My Style: MYTV Cebu.  

As for being one of the finalists for the Century Tuna Superbods, “It is an opportunity that I am very grateful for. I love the Superbods atmosphere and it has been a really fun experience with my fellow finalists and I just try to always enjoy the moment” said Erik.  

His ambition in life is to be a commercial airline pilot in the near future. As someone who is half Dutch and half Filipino, he truly loves living in Cebu. “Having lived in the Philippines all my life, I’ve been raised with the Filipino heart and the Mabuhay mentality where I can just truly embrace being a proud Pinoy” added Erik.

Hope Christian’s Ken Mark ‘Super Mark’ Miranda ready to take flight on cape of greatness

His towering height and pretty boy looks can turn the head of any Louis Lane on his way, but this 6’ 2” Senior High School student from Hope Christian High School has more to offer in the hard court than just his boy-next-door  image.

HCHS’s so-called ‘Superman’, the shooting guard who dons jersey # 15 Ken Mark Miranda has played for several tournaments including FilOil Flying V, Metro Manila Basketball League

(MMBL), Las Pinas Private Schools Athletic Association (LAPRISSA) where he was awarded as the league’s Most Valuable Player (MVP), and now in the Pilipinas Chinese Amateur Basketball League (PCABL).

Born Ken Mark C. Miranda on April 1, 1996, in Cardona, Rizal, to Raffy Miranda and Marivic C. Miranda, the cager is on his way to pursue his dream in the world of hoops sports.

No Kryptonite hindered SuperMark from draining shots in his basketball games. In his MMBL game against Ateneo de Manila University, he scored 40 points and 8 rebounds with 6 assists while he poured in 20 points against the Adamson University also in the same tourney. In their FilOil tournament against the Mapua Institute of Technology, he scored 16 points, 9 boards and 2 steals. In his last games, Ken Mark averages 29.25 points, 6.3 rebounds and 4 assists per game. This guy’s stats speak volumes of his talent as a future playmaker and star player in the big basketball leagues of this country.

On February 7 of this year, the Las Pinas Private Schools Association (LAPRISSA) handed out its Most Valuable Player (MVP) award in their high school basketball tournament to Ken Mark Miranda.  He is currently playing in the PCABL for Hope Christian High School where he pitched in 13 points, 20 rebounds and 1 block in his last game against UPHSD. “I’d like to thank God and my family for this achievement. Without them, I wouldn’t be where I am right now. Thank you also for all those who supported me and my teammates.” quipped the beaming cager of Hope Christian who hails from Pangasinan province.

In the PBA, he looks up to the reigning Governor’s Cup and All-Filipino Cup champion team San Mig Coffee Mixers, and one of its star players, Peter Jun “The Scoring Apostle” Simon. “Sobrang galing niya, magaling yung skills at matalino siya maglaro” said Ken Mark. In the

NBA, he likes the 4-time Regular Season MVP and now Cleveland Cavaliers superstar Lebron James and the young squad of Golden State Warriors. “I like Lebron James as a player because he doesn’t only work for his points but also for his team. He assists, he blocks, he scores, and

he steals. He is an all-around player.” said Kenmark. His ambition in life is to make it big someday in basketball leagues like the PBA so he can help his family.

With his persistent training and love for the game, Ken Mark’s vision is not far-fetched to become a reality in the future. He is currently in the roster of the Junior team that will play for this year’s PSSBC for multi-titled Hope Christian High School. Playing for his respective school is a privilege in itself, but helping them to make his team at the top of their game is also another achievement that he always likes to share with the rest of his teammates. May SuperMark be a true hero inside and outside of the basketball court and be a good role model for the young to emulate.

‘Mallari’, ‘Iti Mapukpukaw’, 4 other movies vie for 72nd FAMAS Best Picture race

The horror movie ‘Mallari’ picked up 14 FAMAS nominations leading all contenders for the 72^nd Awards night happening on May 26 at the Manila Hotel Fiesta Pavilion. The historical drama ‘Gomburza’ followed closely with 12 FAMAS nominations. Box office hit ‘Rewind’ and ‘Papa Mascot’ each received 10 FAMAS nominations while the Kathryn Bernardo starrer ‘A Very Good Girl’ got 8 FAMAS nominations. Philippine Oscar entry and Cinemalaya big winner ‘Iti Mapukpukaw’ won 6 FAMAS nominations.

Vying for FAMAS Best Director are: Carl Papa for ‘Iti Mapukpukaw’, Derick Cabrido for ‘Mallari’, Pepe Diokno for ‘Gomburza’,  Mae Cruz for ‘Rewind’, Petersen Vargas for ‘ A Very Good Girl’, and Louie Ignacio for ‘Papa Mascot’.

Jio’s Kitchenette: A magnificent dining experience for family and friends

The original  Filipino dishes and comfort food have proven time and again that it can compete with the world’s best when it comes to taste and packaging. One of the best dining experiences we had recently was with Jio’s Kitchenette restaurant and we can definitely say that it is one of the best semi-fine dining alfresco restaurants we have been into. We would like to thank and commend Mr. Harvey Joven and Ms. Lea Joven for the warm accommodation you had with us during our food review and interview at Jio’s Kitchenette.

Asked about the short history of Jio’s Kitchenette, “We started as a small carenderia in 2017 in the public market. During the pandemic, we started to sell orders and then after the pandemic in 2022, we started with this building and opened this restaurant on April 2, 2022”, said Mr. Joven.

Asked about their advantage over other alfresco dining restaurants, “We have a very affordable price for our customers compared to others because we have our own place, we don’t rent. We also have quality foods here. We make sure that we offer quality foods”, added Mr. Joven.

Jio’s Kitchennette is named after their son Jio. They also cater for events good up to 35 persons. When it comes to customers’ responses, they always have positive feedbacks from their customers for their delicious and delectable food plus the ambience of their place.

The following foods were served to us and this is our honest review:

Cordon bleu. The dish of chicken meat wrapped around cheese pan-fried, I have to admit I am a lover of cheese and this has to be one of their best dishes when it comes to taste and the right amount of tenderness for lovers of chicken meat.

Crispy Pork Kare-kare. This is my all-time favorite viand and I can genuinely say that this is one of the best tasting kare-kare I have eaten in a long time. They perfectly blended the thick peanut sauce with the right amount of vegetables and I loved their crispy pork as it is so delectable you would go back for more.

Signature barbeque liempo. The ultimate liempo meal that comes from the ever savory and succulent pork belly! It was a great dining experience with this meal. I really loved its sauce and its tender meat.

Mixed seafoods cajun. It’s buttery and garlicky and the best seafood boil recipe. The delicious mess of seafood, potatoes, and corn all drenched in sauce and dripping from your fingertips is really something to go back for more.

Beat the heat with the delectable taste of halo-halo from KD’s HALO

The scorching heat of summer is already in our midst and what better way to quench our thirst and get away from the heat is to cool ourselves with the newest craze in town, the delectable and satisfying mouthwatering taste of KD’s Halo halo-halo, a new twist in the Filipino all-time favorite halo-halo.  

Behind the sweet halo-halo is a success story of an entrepreneur who never ceases to go to greater lengths. Ms. Dimple Kay Gregorio started KD’s Halo. It just started this March 7, 2024.

“I am fond of ordering halo-halo in various stores and for me, I felt the lack of ingredients, so I tried to make my own halo-halo that is rich in ingredients and taste that is why I came up with ths halo-halo overload.” Said Ms. Gregorio.

We tried their halo-halo overload and it was delicious, clean, and the ingredients were overflowing. The leche flan was big placed at the top, it was creamy, there were ube aplenty, macapuno, beans, banana, the ingredients were full-packed. I am also a witness on how people positively responded to the taste of this halo-halo overload craze in the city.

KD’s Halo came from the names of her two children, Kaydee and Deen Marlee. “My business is only at home that is why I also do my business online. At first I had seoncd thoughts if the business will click or not but I just tried it and it worked well now”, added Ms. Gregorio.

Avatar the Last Airbender theme used in Classroom Observation

The success and popularity of the Netflix live action remake Avatar The Last Airbender became an inspiration for this author to make the show as one of my teaching strategies during my classroom observation on April 1, 2024 at San Jose Integrated High School. The lesson was focused on viewing comprehension for the third quarter and I thought of donning Aang’s costume to engage my learners about the lesson.

San Jose Jaguars roar for first win in Division Meet qualifying game

San Jose Integrated High School sustained their hot start in the fourth period and wasted no time in getting their first win of the Division Meet qualifying game defeating Dolores NHS, 63-56 at the Central gym on January 24, 2024.

San Jose Jaguars basketball players include Jian James Marco, Chester Urrea, Steven Mark Gutirerrez, John Rusell Duroca, Frederick Athan Flores, Brandel Benicio Cabrera, Aaven Christ Marco, Kurt Jayden Patal, Jhames Kirby Salcedo, Benedict Salarson, Yuri Andrie Udjaman, and Albert Valencia.

In their game against San Bartolome NHS, Cabrera scored 6 pts, Udjaman 19, Duroca 12, Gutierrez 11, Marco Jian 2, Marco Aaven 5, Salarson 14, and Urrea 4 pts. In their against Santisimo Rosario NHS, Salarson scored 19 pts, Gutierrez 4 pts, Marco A. 7 pts, Marco J. 6 pts, Duroca 2 pts, Udjaman 21 pts, and Cabrera 3 pts.

‘King Ryan’ knocks down Haney thrice, wins via unanimous decision

Ryan “King Ry” Garcia pulled a stunning upset over heavy favorite Devin ”The Dream” Haney as he floored his amateur rival three times down the canvas en route to a unanimous decision victory on April 20 at Barkleys Center, Brooklyn.

Garcia put on a clinic of impressive display of boxing supremacy as he knocked down Haney in the 7^th, 10^th, and 11^th rounds. The judges’ scores went 112-112, 114-110, and 115-109 unanimously giving their verdict to Ryan Garcia.

Garcia floored Haney with a barrage of right-left combination in the 10th round for the second knockdown. Haney tired out the count, but Garcia jumped back on him again and surprised him with another left hand.

In round 11, Garcia measured Haney with his left, looking to land another explosive shot. He rocked Haney again, first with the right and again with the left for a third knockdown, as chants of “Ry-an! Ry-an!” can be heard from the crowd.

Garcia defied the odds and hand Haney the first loss of his boxing career. However, Garcia will not be eligible to win the WBC  Super Lightweight title because of being overweight.

It is said that he who controls the rebound, controls the game. Today, this notion has been added to the fact that centers should also know how to create mid-range and long-range shots. Well, if you are gifted with a 6’ 3” height and athletic abilities, that will not be a problem. Such is the case of this young and upcoming player Filipino-German James Andreus Pradella. He is also a young entrepreneur with his JP Sports Apparel business.    

Born James Andreus Pradella on October 19, 2001, in Caloocan City, to Mr. Klaus Pradella and Ms. Amy Pradella, the 6-foot-3 Fil-German cager now plays for Colegio de San Juan de Letran. His idol in the PBA is his namesake James Yap while in the NBA, he likes Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers. His career high is 42 points during the 2017 Got Skills 19 under tournament.

Asked how he manages basketball and studies, “Time Management is the most important thing. You always have to find time for everything you do”, quipped the handsome cager. His hobbies aside from basketball are watching movies and reading books. With determination and perseverance, this young athlete can achieve greater heights and carve a niche in the world of professional basketball in the near future.

Fil-British cager Eric Ramos Hall: The ‘hard-court heartthrob’ of Mindoro

The Philippines is a country known for world-class sports figures like boxing icon Manny Pacquiao, kegler Paeng Nepomuceno, runner Lydia De Vega, the magician Efren “Bata” Reyes, to name a few. These athletes are products of hard work and training that they developed when they were still young. Such is the case of this upcoming basketball star from Oriental Mindoro, Filipino-British cager Eric Ramos Hall.

Born Eric Ramos Hall on September 10, 2003 in Guiguinto, Bulacan to Mr. Mark A. Hall and Ms. Rosemarie R. Hall, the 5-foot-11 cager is currently studying in LPU Batangas.

His career high in points for a basketball game is 46 during an intramurals in his school. Aside from playing basketball, Eric is also into swimming and taekwondo as his recreation. Eric’s idol in basketball is NBA star and Portland Trailblazer guard Damian Lillard. “I liked him because he is an unselfish player”, said Eric. Fil-Austrian Tayshaun Paul Maierhofer plays for Far Eastern University Baby Tamaraw

The game of basketball has evolved a lot in this time and age, as reflected on how the game is played in the international scene particularly in the NBA. It is said that long-range shooting is the “new normal” in the game of basketball. Today, this notion has been added to the fact that centers and forwards should also know how to create mid-range and long-range shots. Such is the case of this young and upcoming cager from the UAAP juniors. Meet Tyshaun Maierhofer.  

Born Tayshaun Paul Maierhofer on December 27, 2005 in Sabang, Puerto Galera to Mr. Paul Rico Maierhofer and Ms. Jeck Maierhofer, the 6-foot-3 FEU basketball player is currently playing as forward in their team. 

Asked how he balances his sports and studies, “by making a schedule, looking at all the things that need to be done, and doing them as efficiently as possible”, said the beaming cager from FEU.

Asked about his most unforgettable game, “We were down by 2, opposition had the ball, ended up taking a charge for the possession, ended up passing a dime to the teammate and winning”, quipped Tyshaun.

Aside from basketball his other sports or hobbies include watching films and weightlifting. He became the best player of the game in passion league with a double-double performance 20 points, 14 rebounds, and 2 assists.

His idols in basketball (NBA and PBA) are Kobe Bryant (I love his mentality and the way he plays the sport) and Rico Maierhofer (You already know why Haha). His ambition in life is to achieve his dream of becoming a professional athlete, become the best version of himself, make his parents and God proud.
