‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’ delivers its trademark thrills

As a fan of fantasy films and Steven Spielberg movies growing up as a kid, it’s good to know that such classic spins on Jurassic Park gets the attention it deserves in this generation of viewers especially the young ones.  When it first appeared on screen in 1993, it had a huge following and became a mammoth blockbuster hit that year.

Mind-boggling action from start to finish is what viewers should expect from this movie. I watched this movie together with my friend Fil-American Abed Green at SM City North EDSA IMAX cinema on June 15. The cinema was jam-packed with viewers and there were kids who were also amused by the sight of dinosaurs. Indeed, the movie is about “endangered species” in which for this instance, the last species of dinosaurs on earth where scientists had discovered in a place called Nibular, somewhere in the African continent.

There was a cameo role by Jeff Goldblum who also appeared in the 1993 Jurassic Park movie and the one who delivered an important speech by the end of the film about animal preservation and humans co-existing with these ancient creatures. The actors were good, the special effects were great, and story has a resemblance with other ‘Jurassic’ movies. Overall, it was worth the ticket and time watching an adventure movie that brings back to us memories of childhood and the wonders of these creatures that lived before us, and the lesson taught that we should preserve the creatures that God had created and should be taken care of by us, human beings.

Being watched in an IMAX theatre, it really brought us closer to the sights and sounds of the movie, thanks to the 3D treatment and the larger scale images brought by IMAX theatre. The experience was really worth the time and money spent. This brilliant action-adventure movie is highly recommended, and I give it 4 ½ stars out of five.

‘Thor Ragnarok’: A Prelude to Avengers Infinity War

Though I’m a fan of Marvel superheroes and movies, I rarely see a Thor movie and I hope my memory serves me right, this is the first time I stepped into the moviehouse with a Thor movie in my midst. I watched Thor Ragnarok, the third installment to the Thor series and part of the Marvel Comics Universe (MCU), with my friend NU swimmer Dyrham Palfrey at MOA cinema.

Directed by Taika Waititi comes the story of Thor imprisoned on the other side of the universe, he finds himself in a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against the Hulk, his former ally and fellow Avenger. Thor’s journey for survival leads him in a race against time to prevent the all-powerful Hela from destroying his home world and the Asgardian civilization.

The movie opened as Thor was imprisoned, and the events that took after Avengers: Age of Ultron. He was reunited with his brother and nemesis Loki. Before the prophecy of Ragnarok or the destruction of Asgard, Thor must rage against time and circumstances.

Flourished with out-of-this-world set decoration, erratic cinematography, and some of the best visual effects to come out on screen this year, Thor Ragnarok is a visual feast for the eye. Its comic undertones also add to the entertainment value of the movie. It is said that if you are not amazed at the visual sight, you’ll be laughing your heart out. One of the best scenes in the movie is the gladiatorial fight between Hulk and Thor. There was also a cameo appearance from one of the Marvel superheroes here. I will not spoil but he had his first solo movie last year.

So get set for the biggest movie event of the year. If you want to relax and enjoy the movies this summer with your beloved family and friends, go grab those popcorns and drinks and watch Avengers Infinity War. Showing in SM City San Pablo cinema on April 25, 2018.
